Sominex Tablets help short-term sleeplessness. Each tablet contains 20 mg promethazine, a sedating antihistamine that makes you drowsy so you fall asleep and stay asleep. Use for up to 7 nights only. Adults and those aged 16 years and over.
How to use
Take one tablet at bedtime. You can take it up to one hour after going to bed if sleep is difficult. Do not take more than one tablet in 24 hours. Do not use for more than 7 consecutive nights. The drowsiness can last into the next day, so do not drive or operate machinery and avoid alcohol. Not for those under 16 unless a doctor advises. If sleep problems persist, speak to a clinician.
Main ingredients
Each tablet contains promethazine hydrochloride 20 mg. Excipients include lactose, maize starch, croscarmellose sodium and magnesium stearate.
Side effects and cautions
You may feel morning drowsiness, dry mouth, dizziness, headache, blurred vision or digestive upset. Difficulty passing urine, restlessness, palpitations and low blood pressure can occur. Rarely, rash, photosensitivity or jaundice are reported. Do not use if you are allergic to promethazine or other phenothiazines. Speak to a pharmacist before use if you have asthma, bronchitis, epilepsy, glaucoma, enlarged prostate, heart, liver or kidney problems, or if you take MAOIs or medicines with anticholinergic effects such as tricyclic antidepressants. Avoid alcohol. Stop and seek advice if you get unusual symptoms or persistent next-day sedation.
